'Inn' the past

The Dolphin Inn has been trading for well over 130 years, if not a lot longer and was probably originally a coaching inn.

We have found reference to the pub in local newspapers as far back as 1893.

Using this information we have been able to determine the landlords / landlady's of the Dolphin Inn

07 Jan 1893 - Transfer of Licence from Samuel Baxter to Mrs Arnold

1900 - Owned by Messers James Eadie Ltd

1901 - Innkeeper - Thomas Salt

1902 - Transfer of Licence from Thomas Salt to Charles Salt

19 Jan 1904 - Charles Salt dies, aged 49

Feb 1904 - Transfer of Licence to Mrs Mary Salt

July 1094 - Temporary transfer of licence from Mary Salt to Henry Salt

02 March 1916 - Sophia Salt, wife of Henry, died aged 61

20 Dec 1924 - Licence transferred from Henry Salt to Thomas Harvey who owned a property on Potters Lane, Polesworth

23 May 1936 - Temporary Transfer of licence from Thomas Harvey to John W. Kendall

04 July 1936 - Full transfer to J.W. Kendall

28 Aug 1949 - J.W. Kendall named as licensee (ongoing_)

1950 - End of research so far...

We also found an old 'Dolphin Inn' stamped stoneware flagon in the cellar and had it professionally restored.

We believe it was made at the Wilnecote based George Skey and Co. pottery works off the old A5 between Wilnecote and Belgrave, opposite the old Railway Inn, around the turn of the 1900s.

It's now proudly on display in the bar.
